WHAT’S INVOLVED IN RUNNING A BUSINESS?
23/09/2011
The Councils of Armagh, Banbridge, Craigavon and Newry &Mourne are offering local people an opportunity to take place in an Enterprise Skills Course.
The course is run over a ten week period and includes enterprise and business skills workshops, visits to existing businesses, meeting entrepreneurs, and getting mentoring from business professionals. It is one morning per week, and this is the second time it has run.
Deirdre Fitzpatrick, Programme Manager, said “We are delighted to run this programme on behalf of the Councils. Last year, it was very successful. We had a super group of people who got a great insight into running a business. Several of them have now started in business, and at least half the group progressed to other business start up support.”
A past participant who started her business fitting and styling wigs and hair pieces for people with hair loss, said “I would never have had the confidence or knowledge to get started without the course. It really helped me to get organised, to know where to get information, and to know how to approach suppliers and customers. I have really benefited and am delighted I did the course.”
At the certificate presentation, Madam Chairman Councillor Joan Baird told the group “The range and quality of business ideas that have emerged from the Pre-Enterprise Programme is very impressive. These businesses will truly be an asset to the whole of the SEED region. I'd like to congratulate the participants on their commitment and for taking their careers into their own hands”.
