Mr Theo Saunders, Director of Music at St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral, Armagh, will continue the 2013 programme of the William Lauder Memorial Organ Recitals by giving an organ recital on Sunday 23 June 2013 at 4.15pm in the Cathedral.

Theo was immersed in church music from a very early age, whether for the organ, or for choir and congregation. He was Organ Scholar at Corpus Christi College in Oxford, where he founded the Chapel Choir. He gained a teaching qualification in Music at Middlesex Polytechnic. His first appointment was at Exeter Cathedral School, during which time he was awarded the Choirmasters’ Diploma. Subsequent positions included Director of Music at Ryde Junior School (Isle of Wight), St David’s Metropolitan Cathedral and Director of the choir school, St John’s College (Cardiff), Head of Music at Stoneygate School, and Director of Music at St James the Greater (Leicester). Theo is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists.

Theo’s choice of music for this recital will include two marches – Killaloe, and the RAF March – and two pieces which are popular at weddings – Purcell’s Trumpet Tune, and Widor’s Toccata.

Admission is free to the organ recital, which will last approximately 45 minutes. There will be a retiring collection for the further endowment of the Archbishop of Armagh’s Choir Fund.

Theo, who has been the Cathedral Organist and Master of the Choristers in Armagh for ten years, said: “Thanks to the support of the other recitalists who performed in this year’s programme of recitals, and to the generosity of the audiences who attended the previous organ recitals, we have raised about £2,000 for the Choir Fund. I will be most grateful for support for my organ recital. I feel that it is only fair that I, too, contribute to the programme, having asked other recitalists to give of their time.”

There will be two more recitals in the William Lauder Memorial Organ Recital series. One will be an organ recital given by musician Emma Gibbins on Sunday 28 July 2013 and a piano recital by Orly Watson on Sunday 11 August 2013.
